I think that Knoxville's low income and LGBTQ communities were disheartened with the fire and destruction of the Planned Parenthood Building at 710 N. Cherry Street on Dec 31 2021. Community leaders and resource providers, including myself, began scrambling to find alternative resources for medical care for patients and to offer emotional support related to the arson case.
Planned Parenthood has been utilizing a Telehealth, health care via telephone option for patients since January 2022. I was informed at the beginning of May that Planned Parenthood has begun to offer medical services again in a physical capacity by way of their Mobile Medical Unit.
I have been communicating with their office via email. This is the services the mobile unit is offering:
"Services Offered in the Knoxville Mobile Health Unit
Offering all previous services in the Mobile Health Unit with the exception of ultrasounds for pregnancy dating and the Gardasil vaccine. This includes:
Birth Control (IUDs, implants, Depo, and birth control pills)
Emergency Contraception
STI testing and treatment
Well person exams
Problem visits (e.g., UTI)
Gender affirming care
For security reasons, they are not accepting cash, and are only accepting patients with an appointment. Same day appointments are available. Right now, patients need to call their Call Center to make an appointment. That number is 866-711-1717. They are very close to Online Appointment Scheduling on their website for the Mobile Health Unit. Follow their social media at pptnmcares to keep up to date on when the website scheduling is live.
They are operating the Mobile Health Unit at Planned Parenthood's original address at 710 N. Cherry Street until June 2. Starting on June 5, they will be moving to the parking lot of a friendly church partner, (Messiah Lutheran Church at 6900 Kingston Pike) and plan to stay there until the new health center is completed."
