Easter Options for LGBTQ Families in Knoxville TN

LGBTQ Affirming churches & Easter Egg hunts.

Beau Knowles April 7 2022

Recently I had a member of one of my groups ask about LGBTQ Affirming Churches with Easter Egg Hunts?

So, I went on a hunt of my own. My previous research had led me to over 25 LGBTQ supportive spiritual organizations in our fine city of Knoxville TN. I spoke to most of the churches on my list, I also followed up on some new ones. Here is some information from the religious organizations I spoke too, they span several denominations.

Church of the Savior UCC, Knoxville said that they have Easter Egg Hunt on Easter morning April 17 at 10 am, with worship service after at 11:15 am.) 934 N Weisgarber Rd, Knoxville, TN (865) 584-7531

Powell Presbyterian Church Pastor Katina Sharp said "We have an egg hunt following worship on Easter Sunday. 9:30 pancake breakfast 10:30 worship 11:30 (or as soon as worship ends) egg hunt. RevKatinaSharp@gmail.com and 865-742-2292 910 W Emory Rd, Powell, TN

Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church said " Yes, we have an egg hunt on Easter Sunday immediately following our service! The service generally lasts for an hour, and begins at 11am, but the length can vary a bit so I can't make promises about exactly when the hunt will begin. But all are welcome to the service and the hunt! We do a modified egg hunt, which has helped avoid the tears of years past when some kids invariably would find only a few but saw others with dozens: we hide empty eggs in six colors, and each kid is invited to find and collect one egg of each color, which they then turn in for (non-food) goodies. After everyone's had a chance to find their six, we open it back up for those who'd enjoy more hunting to go out and get as many as they can, as "helpers" to make sure all the eggs are collected. It has worked very well for us! Hunters are welcome to bring their own baskets, but we'll have bags available to hand out too. I'd be happy to talk more about our plans for Easter, or any other church programs. My email is CatherineLoya@tvuuc.org  " 2931 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 (865) 523-4176

The Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan said "We have an egg hunt Sunday April 10th at 11:15 after our 10 am worship service. We are an affirming church and would be happy to have them join us." 425 North Cedar Bluff Rd Knoxville TN (865) 693-9591

St. James Episcopal Church, 1101 N. Broadway, Knoxville, will have an Easter Egg Hunt following the 10:30 a.m. service. There will also be coffee, pastries, and fruit for adults and children during the hunt. They said "SJEC is an LGBTQ affirming church. Everyone is welcome and come as you are! "

Gatlinburg TN

Gatlinburg First United Methodist's Pastor Barbara Clark said " We will have a small gathering of children next Wednesday (April 13th) evening 6:00pm. I plan to make “Resurrection Eggs” with the children and adults, and we’ll probably hide eggs for a little while (inside the building, since we’re surrounded by a downtown parking lot). I’m also hoping to have enough adults here on Easter morning to hide/search for eggs during the worship service (again, in the Education Building). 742 Parkway Gatlinburg TN/ (865) 436-4691
